Adult Christian Formation
Indaba
Adult Christian Formation is conducted at 9:15 between the 8 AM and the 10:15 AM services. Parishoners are encouraged to join us for discussions on important topics relating to spiritual life and Transfiguration. Adult parishoners participate in Indaba (an African word for meeting or gathering) discussion Groups during our forum time. People from the congregation, the community, and various organizations introduce topics for discussion. This group meets in the Parish Hall.
Sunday School
Each term the Sunday School curriculum is coordinated to educate our young people about different stories in the Bible. Classes meet in the Community Building across from the Parish Hall. Classes are coordinated by age groups and is designed for children 4 year olds through Grade 5. Sunday School is held on Sundays for the Fall, Winter and Spring terms starting at 10:00 a.m along with Nursery services (young parishoners then join the congregation for Communion).
Youth Group
The Youth Group (Disciples for Christ) consists of those young persons who are in Grades 6 through 12. Youth group leaders introduce topics for discussion from both a Christian and a cultural perspective, as well as lectionary based texts. The Youth meet in the Library just off the Parish Hall. Youth group meets at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Library.
During the 10:15 AM service a nursery for little ones (age 3 and younger) is available every Sundary. The Nursery is located along the corridor between the Parish Hall and the stairs. Parents pick up their children from the nursery during the peace in time to be presented for communion.
Milestone and Catechumenate Programs
The Mlestone program is offered to those young people who seek to have an understanding of what it means to be a Christian, how we do things as Episcopalians, and what it means to be baptized and to receive communion. The program ends with Milestone Sunday in which the children have a chance to bring their special gifts before the congregation as they take communion, some for the very first time.
The Catechumenate Program is for those who wish to be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed in the Episcopal faith. The class will be taught annually with an eye toward the foundation stories of our faith, what Episcopalians believe, how to use the Book of Common Prayer, and other topics of interest to the catechumens.
Summer Programs
Sunday School and Nursery will continue during the 10:15 service for the benefit of our youngest parishioners. This allows the children to be cared for in a safe environment and to learn and have fun with their friends.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Transfiguration participates in a one-week VBS with other local churches during the course of the summer. One of the churches hosts while the other churches provide teachers, meals, and supplies for the event. VBS encourages Christinas of all ages to participate. Watch our web page for further information.
